2000 to 2009 and pending: In summary, joviality continues - performances, exhibition(s), film experimentation and in-house / vanity publications - hardcopy and online development; all within the realms of exploring public spaces, places with and amongst (public) people - folklore meets triction. Humour - the wonderful articulation of comedy - circumventing the stand-ups on TV or shows on the radio; but the work I have been making is in the open air, in the slipstream of convention(s)…This decade has reclaimed and extended a little bit of my essence…
But, the art work that I make is not about me (as a solo insprant). It’s about exploring who we are and who you are (us), who I am in the mix - a kind of people-alchemy of transmutational shifts, just like DNA reforming and re-coding a little bit more of us in mutli universe evolution….
This brings me on to the current research developing and finding clarity: the self imposed title of an Eccentric Archaeologist. Eccentric Archaeology - I have no specific definition of what this is exactly, other than a non-definition that gives a sense regarding what my life’s work is becoming, stimulated via words, poetics, people and places. Key to this is has been a complete distancing of the dominant and pre-conceived cultural elite and manufacturers and the seemingly apparent trend repitition. Surely, genuine visionary antics have nothing to do with trends and art followers or mimicry!
On the contrary, my life as an Eccentric Archaeologist celebrates another world - a genuine and intelligent world of the peculiar and those that peculiarise. I am on the trail of eccentricity, defined or undefined, and that is my delight! I’m voyaging within this realm…..
So the documentation from 2000 onwards begins to shape a little more peculiar and social dialogue (a mixture of bespoke curiosity..) and more still to be added, will hopefully aid the new direction as an eccentric outsider…making art-not-as-you-know-it!
