A fish out of water 2001

Phraseologies chosen and made into literal actions. ‘A fish out of water’  journeys for the afternoon around parts of Bristol (UK). Returned later to source, unharmed.

The continuation of my ad-hoc explorations that start with a simple premise - taking a phrase and translating it into a physical action(s). For example - ‘Making a mountain out of a mole hill’ was another translation in which I went and collected mole hills in the countryside and made the soil into a miniature mountainscape (unfortunately no documentation exists).

Here are some pictures from ‘A fish out of water’:

2001: Like a fish out of water. After taking a walk to find a fish, I eventually befriend a local fisherman in Bristol. The performance concerned taking 'a fish out of water' and taking it on another journey elsewhere... Inspired by the phrase itself, I now enacted a literal translation of a fish out of water. Note, the fish was returned safely to its original source.
